Victor Kyando:  Victor is a junior from Tanzania.

My name is Victor Kyando. I was born and raised in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. I completed my primary education in my home country, at a school known as Dar es Salaam Independent School. In 2002, my parents agreed to send me to a school in Swaziland known as Waterford Kamhlaba the following year to begin my high school education. I was able to complete my high school education there, as well as join the international baccalaureate (I.B.) program because Waterford Kamhlaba was also a United World College. I graduated from Waterford in 2008 with great achievements from the I.B. program and was able to pursue my education further at Hood College in Fall 2009. I began as a political science major at Hood, but decided to change to business management major my sophomore year.

Patricia Marques Miguel:  Patricia is from Portugal and a graduate student in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and International Student Programs.

My name is Patricia Miguel. I was born in a small town about 30 minutes north of Lisbon, Portugal’s capital. I grew up just outside of Sintra where I attended Middle School and High School. Then, I went on to study at the University of Lisbon. A combination of factors led me to leave my country. Consequently, I went to London where I enrolled at Thames Valley University (known today as the University of West London) and completed a BA (Honors) in Travel and Tourism Management. While in London, I worked as a waitress, a market research interviewer and a Ticketing Agent for tour operator. These jobs allowed me to pay my way through college, and provided an excellent learning experience, which helped me to the next stage in my life, when I decided to accept a job offer with Marriott International in Washington, D.C. I came over to the United States under a J-1 visa that resulted in a “heartbreaking” departure a year and a half later when I had to leave the country.

After another year and a half in Europe (both in Portugal and England), during a tough recession period when finding a job was difficult. I carried on working in customer service related jobs. By this time, I realized that I should once again broaden my horizons and aim at a more promising career; so I enrolled at Hood College to study for a Master’s in Business Administration. This is where I find myself now; months away from completing my MBA, and working in Hood College’s Multicultural Affairs and International Students Program. It has been worth it!

Marko Petric:  Marko is a first year student from Bosnia and the President of the Class of 2015.

I was born in 1993 in Split (Croatia). I grew up in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Besides me, my parents have another son and a daughter - I am their oldest child. After I completed elementary and part high school in my hometown, I enrolled to the United World College in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) where I completed IB studies after which I arrived to the States. I study International Affairs and French as a double major and I am the President of Class of 2015. Thus, I am a freshman.
