Michelle Shearer, a chemistry teacher from Urbana High School, recently spoke to the Rotary Club of Carrol Creek about her journey since being named 2011 National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) this past June. She has been able to travel in many areas of the United States as well as China and Japan. With her recent week-long visit to Japan she shared being able to connect with students who survived the tsunami and creating a positive educational program with very few resources. Michelle also shared how being able to attend over 150 engagements will enable her to inspire educators across the country to embrace innovation and prepare their students to live and work in the 21st century.
