Making a Difference

For years, Rotary’s commitment to service above self has been channeled through the club’s avenues of service, which form the foundation for club activity.

Once described as the “heartbeat of Rotary,” community service represents the club’s effort to improve the quality of life within Frederick. Rotarians have a long history of making an impact on their local communities. To a large extent, Rotary’s reputation was built on the community service projects undertaken by Rotarians. Visit Local Outreach for more information on RCCC’s actions within the community.

This avenue encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe. In this area, Rotarians strive for the advancement of international peace and understanding through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideas of service above self. International service projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands. Visit Global Outreach for more information on RCCC’s actions around the globe.

The vocational service avenue encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. This area represents each Rotarian’s opportunity to serve society through his or her vocation. Rotarians promote and foster high ethical standards in business and professions and promote the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations.

Making a difference starts with service to our club. As Rotarians, we have an obligation to strengthen our organization; so all members should be encouraged to get involved in club service. This can be as simple as attending our weekly meetings, serving on committees and on the club’s board of directors, or representing the club in outside activities.

This avenue recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities such as Rotaract and Interact, service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange. Visit Future Rotarians for more information on RCCC’s efforts to develop future Rotarians.
