Rotary International and The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek are committed to serving and mentoring the youth in our communities in an effort to build goodwill, better friendships, and a culture of service above self. Through a variety of activities and opportunities, Rotary invites youth of all ages to collaborate with Rotary. Specifically, for high school-aged youth, we encourage the exploration of the following engagement opportunities with our club, our district, and Rotary International:

Interact Clubs: Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting as active organizations in their schools. RCCC sponsors the Interact clubs at TJ High School and St. John’s Catholic Prep. There are also clubs at Frederick High and Urbana High. For more information, contact Chris Baker at

RCCC Youth Leadership Program: Each Fall, thirty local Juniors and Seniors are invited to participate in a leadership development program that explores the dynamics and day-to-day challenges of contemporary leaders in our community. For more information, contact Bonnie Swanson at

RYLA: Each Spring, Rotary District 7620 hosts RYLA, a program similar to the RCCC Youth Leadership Program, but held with local Rotary clubs across MD and DC. The Rotary International District 7620 RYLA program is an intense 3-day, 2-night leadership training program that is designed to recognize, encourage and further develop the leadership skills of 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students who have shown a potential for rendering important service to their schools and communities. Registration begins in October. For more information, contact Bonnie Swanson at

RCCC Post-Secondary Scholarship: For graduating seniors, RCCC offers scholarships to support those attending four-year, two-year, and trade/technical schools after high school graduation. Scholarship applications open in early Spring each year and may award up to $2500. For more information, contact

Rotary Youth Exchange: Rotary Youth Exchange is a Rotary International student exchange program for students in secondary school. Since 1929, Rotary International has sent young people around the globe to experience new cultures. Typically, students are sent to another country for a year-long stay, generally living with multiple host families during the year and being expected to perform daily tasks within the household as well as attend school in the host country. RCCC sponsors one youth per year in the outbound program. For more information, contact Cara Keys at

4-way Test Speech Contest: In an effort to promote Rotary’s Four Way Test, District 7620 hosts a Four-Way Test Speech contest in which high school students apply the test to a current community problem or opportunity. Students compete across the district; the finale being held at the District Conference each year. Finalists receive a monetary award. For more information on the District 7620 program, contact Matt May at
