Avenues of Service

For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been channeled through the Avenues ofService, which form the foundation of club activity.

Club Service

This encompasses all activities necessary to make the club function successfully and achieve its goals.  Although the Club is an entirely volunteer organization, its leadership structure and management rivals that of a for-profit business.  RCCC takes “making a difference” seriously and does so by electing a board of directors, which is the club’s decision making body, and separating the major responsibilities of club administration into several committees.

Club service involves regularly attending meetings, sponsoring new members, participating in club fellowship, taking part in programs, serving on committees and on the club’s board of directors, and representing the club in outside activities.  Rotarians have an obligation to strengthen their club, so all members should be encouraged to get involved in club service.

Vocational Service

The Vocational Service Avenue encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.  This area represents the opportunity that each Rotarian has to embody the dignity and utility of one’s vocation as an opportunity to serve society.  Rotarians promote and foster high ethical standards in business and professions and promote the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations.  Observed each October, Vocational Service Month spotlights Rotary club projects related to this avenue, offering opportunities for clubs to use their professional skills in service projects.

Community Service

Once described as the “heartbeat of Rotary,” Community Service represents the Club’s effort to improve the quality of life within Frederick.  Rotarians have a long history of making an impact on their local communities.  To a large extent, Rotary’s reputation is built on the community service projects undertaken by Rotarians.

International Service

This avenue encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe.  In this area, Rotarians strive for the advancement of international peace and understanding through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of Service Above Self. International Service Projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands.

New Generations Service

This avenue recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotaract and Interact, service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.
